The Arts, Culture & History Grant Program is requesting applications to support activities that preserve, interpret and showcase Newcastle’s heritage, arts and cultural identity through public programs, exhibitions, performances, creative commissions and community-led initiatives.
The program focuses on heritage preservation, cultural interpretation, public programs, exhibitions, performances, creative commissions and community-led cultural initiatives that strengthen Newcastle’s arts and cultural identity. Funding amounts available under the program range from $2,000 to $20,000 (ex GST).
The grants are designed to support projects that contribute to the visibility and appreciation of local heritage, arts and culture. Funding is limited to gatherings and activities that aim to build social connections and strengthen community belonging, inclusion, and participation. Eligible activities may include neighbourhood gatherings, community markets, support expos, and community-led or lived-experience events. However, commercial events are not supported through this program. In addition, activities that contravene the general eligibility requirements, as well as those intended to supplement, expand, or continue ongoing service delivery or cover general business operational costs, are considered ineligible for funding.
Ineligible expenses under this program include the purchase of capital items that are not directly related to the delivery of the activity, such as vehicles and office equipment. The funding also does not cover fees and charges associated with compliance or development applications payable to CN, as well as travel, accommodation, salaries, or private expenses. Additionally, the purchase of alcoholic beverages, along with general business overheads and operational expenses, is not eligible for support under the program. Eligible applicants include legally constituted not-for-profit organisations, businesses, individuals auspiced by an eligible entity and not-for-profit arts and cultural organisations.
