The UK Research and Innovation is seeking applications to support talented individuals in establishing independent research and innovation careers while delivering impactful work aligned with UK strategic priorities.
The fellowship focuses on providing sustained funding and resources for talented individuals with the potential to become future leaders in research and innovation, enabling individuals to establish an independent research or innovation career, supporting the development of leadership capability, and enabling the delivery of high-quality, impactful and ambitious work aligned with UK strategic priorities.
Projects must request grant funding between £100,000 and £3,000,000 and should not begin before October 2027. Projects are expected to last for four years, with the possibility of an extension of up to three additional years, subject to approval. Organisations receiving funding must undertake project activities in the UK, intend to exploit project outcomes within the UK, and spend most of the awarded funding in the UK.
The scheme is open to UK-registered businesses of any size, charities, not-for-profit organisations, public sector organisations, agri-tech centres, eligible research organisations, and Catapult centres. Applicants do not need to hold a PhD but must demonstrate equivalent research or innovation experience, alongside the skills, knowledge and experience required to lead the proposed project. International applicants are also eligible, provided they are supported by an eligible UK-based host organisation.
