Deadline Date: July 05, 2026
The Screen Tasmania’s Games Development Program provides support to the development and production of interactive screen projects, including video games and apps for all digital platforms, with the aim of helping applicants release a finished product or attract further development and production investment from the marketplace.
The program focuses on supporting interactive narrative and non-narrative screen projects for digital platforms, encouraging the development and retention of Tasmanian intellectual property, exploring new and emerging business models, creating compelling screen content, and identifying potential revenue streams and market opportunities.
The program offers funding through two streams. The Conceptual Design stream provides a maximum non-recoupable grant of AUD 20,000 per project for activities such as scoping, character and level design, proof of concept, preparation of Games Design Documents (GDD), development of prototypes, vertical slices, and beta content.
The Production and Release stream provides a maximum recoupable grant of AUD 50,000 per project for production-ready projects. Funding under this stream cannot exceed 50 percent of the total development costs, although the value of in-kind services may be included in the finance plan. Applicants seeking more than AUD 50,000 in support must apply through the Production Support program.
Screen Tasmania does not fund the purchase of equipment or software, except for Developer Kits. It also does not support projects that only reformat traditional media content or interactive projects that solely provide utilities, services, education, or information. Funding is not available retrospectively.
Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements and must either be a Tasmanian resident development or production company, including those co-developing with non-Tasmanian partners, or, for Conceptual Design only, be a Tasmanian practitioner working as part of a Tasmanian-based team.
Projects must be substantially developed in Tasmania and/or co-developed by a Tasmanian-based studio. Each project must include at least one team member who has received a lead credit on a previously published interactive screen project relevant to the application.
