Deadline Date: September 08, 2026
The ESA Phi-Lab Ireland Open Call 2026 invites research teams and companies to develop and scale next-generation space-optimised hardware, supporting innovation from materials discovery through to high-volume manufacturing.
The call focuses on advanced materials research, additive manufacturing, design optimisation, structural analysis and simulation, optimisation of production processes, and integration of smart materials. Projects must target TRL 2–4 at entry, with potential progression toward TRL 5–6, and include both technical development and a clear pathway to commercialisation, including market analysis and socio-economic impact.
Eligible applicants include legal entities or consortia established in ESA Member States, Associate Members, or European Cooperating States. Applicants must demonstrate relevant technical expertise, alignment with space applications or the space value chain, and the ability to deliver research with industrial and market relevance.
Selected projects receive non-dilutive funding of €200,000 to €400,000 covering 50%–100% of eligible costs depending on applicant type, with SMEs funded up to 80% and universities or research institutions potentially funded up to 100% under specific conditions. Support duration is up to 24 months and includes access to facilities, technical mentoring, IP guidance, and business support.
Applications are evaluated based on technical innovation, research quality, commercial potential, socio-economic impact, project feasibility, and alignment with Phi-Lab objectives. Only high-scoring proposals meeting minimum evaluation thresholds are considered for funding within the available budget.
