The European Commission is requesting applications to support projects that develop critical space EEE components and related technologies to reinforce EU strategic autonomy and reduce dependency on non-EU supply chains.
The focus areas include reinforcing EU strategic autonomy by reducing non-EU dependencies on critical space EEE components and related technologies across their supply chain, providing unrestricted access to critical components relevant for EU space missions such as Galileo, EGNOS, Copernicus, IRIS2 and EU pilot missions on In-Orbit Space Operations and Quantum Gravimetry, developing the capacity to operate independently in space through resilient EU-based or trustable supply chains, and enhancing global competitiveness by creating products and capabilities equivalent or superior to those outside the EU.
Funding for this topic ranges from €6,000,000 to €7,000,000, with a total budget of €6,860,000. The scope of this topic involves financing and implementing development projects aimed at maturing critical space EEE components while establishing sustainable supply chains that ensure independence from non-EU export restrictions. Projects should focus on technologies highlighted in the EU Observatory of Critical Technologies (OCT) Technology Roadmap, including GaN for RF and mm-wave applications and EU-based semi-insulating SiC substrates. Technological spin-in, bilateral collaborations, and complementarity with existing national and EU-level activities are encouraged. Applicants must provide detailed descriptions of the technology, supply chain, and processes to avoid non-EU export restrictions and demonstrate the trustworthiness of the overall supply chain.
The expected outcomes include achieving unrestricted access to high-performance space EEE components, developing resilient EU supply chains, and enhancing EU competitiveness in the global space industry. Projects should clearly identify and address potential vulnerabilities in the supply chain and ensure compliance with regulations such as ITAR or EAR, providing full transparency on any non-EU dependencies.
Eligible participants include any legal entity worldwide, including non-associated third countries and international organisations, provided they meet the Horizon Europe Regulation and specific call requirements.
