The focus areas of the programme include circular economy innovation, construction and demolition waste circularity, circular energy integration, electric vehicle battery recycling and reuse, circular economy in the textile industry, digital solutions for the circular economy, strengthening innovation ecosystems, improving interregional cooperation, and environmental protection and management.
RIVCircular is a project co-funded by the European Commission under Horizon Europe to strengthen collaboration between participating territories and accelerate innovation across European innovation ecosystems. The initiative supports Greece through projects that promote the circular economy.
The programme will provide cascade funding through an Interregional Innovation Call covering five thematic topics. These include construction and demolition waste circularity, circular energy integration using local waste streams, electric vehicle battery recycling and reuse, circular economy in the textile industry, and digital solutions for the circular economy.
The total budget available under the call is €12,350,000. Each entity may request funding of up to €600,000 in total, even if it submits multiple proposals across different topics within the same call.
Eligible applicants include the Ministry of Environment and Energy, its supervised entities, other ministries, local government authorities, municipal enterprises, decentralized administrations, legal entities of public or private law under state supervision, non-governmental organisations, non-profit civil companies, public benefit foundations, social cooperative enterprises, associations, universities, research centres or institutions, chambers, and scientific or professional associations. Applicants must include the protection and management of the natural or urban environment, or wildlife protection, within their statutory objectives.
Funding is provided through a reimbursement model with payments made in three instalments following the approval of progress reports. Eligible beneficiaries may receive funding covering 100% of their eligible budget for non-commercial activities. Recoverable VAT is not eligible for funding. Eligible project costs include project-related personnel, travel, equipment, and overheads of up to 5% of direct costs, while permanent public sector salaries, bank charges, insurance premiums, fines, and penalties are not eligible.
