Open-Innovation Competition Empowering Start-ups with Global Patents

Deadline Date: July 31, 2026

The IPHatch® Asia competition is a unique initiative aimed at empowering start-ups by granting them access to valuable patents from world-renowned technology leaders.

The core focus areas and objectives of this initiative include business expansion, technology portfolios, mentorship, funding opportunities, and incubation with a global community.

Through business expansion support, the competition facilitates overseas growth for start-ups by sharing insights on international market needs, particularly social issues in overseas markets, and by presenting technologies that have the potential to address these challenges. By doing so, participating start-ups are better positioned to adapt their solutions for global relevance and impact.

The programme also emphasizes the strengthening of technology portfolios by enabling start-ups to enhance their credibility through technology acquisition, licensing, and collaboration with major international companies. Access to granted patents from established technology leaders helps participants build stronger, more competitive foundations for their ventures.

Mentorship is a key component of the competition, with structured mentoring programmes aimed at educating local start-ups to develop comprehensive business plans aligned with overseas market requirements. This guidance supports founders in refining their strategies and preparing for international expansion.

In addition, the initiative creates funding opportunities by facilitating the matching of domestic and overseas venture capitalists through partners and dedicated workshops. This approach helps bridge connections between start-ups and potential investors across borders.

The incubation and global community aspect of the competition focuses on the exchange of incubation and accelerator programmes, with the goal of connecting global start-ups and entrepreneurs within key hub cities of the ecosystem. Participants also have the opportunity to compete for and share a cash prize pool of up to HKD 100,000, further supporting their growth journey.
