The focus areas of the fund include relieving poverty, promoting economic and community development, supporting employment, providing general charitable purposes, and prioritising initiatives that support children and young people.
The Alan Higgs Community Grants are part of the Higgs Charity’s wider grant-making programme and are specifically aimed at grassroots community organisations.
The fund provides grants of up to £1,000 for organisations based in Coventry and Warwickshire. Funding must represent at least 50% of the total project cost and must be spent within one year.
The fund supports start-up costs for new projects or organisations, the extension or development of existing projects, and the purchase of equipment or resources.
Eligible applicants include registered charities, constituted community groups, companies limited by guarantee with charitable aims, community interest companies, co-operatives such as registered community benefit societies and industrial and provident societies, and social enterprises.
Priority is given to organisations that focus on supporting children and young people within their communities.
