Deadline Date: February 28, 2026
The Technology Innovation Agency is seeking applications to support the design and implementation of a Deep Tech Venture Builder Programme that accelerates technology commercialisation and the growth of sustainable tech startups in South Africa.
The programme focuses on accelerating technology and product commercialisation, improving global market readiness, building investment-ready and scalable deep tech ventures, and aligning startup growth with South Africa’s industrialisation and innovation agendas, with thematic areas including advanced manufacturing and industrial modernisation, mining and mineral beneficiation, agricultural innovation and food security, health innovation and wellbeing, energy sustainability and environmental innovation, and the digital economy.
The Deep Tech Venture Builder Programme is designed to address persistent gaps in the innovation ecosystem by supporting startups and spinouts through structured, milestone-driven venture-building approaches. The initiative seeks to strengthen the national pipeline of fundable technology ventures by combining mentorship, technical assistance, business development support, and co-funding opportunities.
Through this call, the Technology Innovation Agency aims to identify capable partners that can collaborate in designing, hosting, and implementing the programme across priority sectors. Selected partners are expected to bring complementary infrastructure, sector expertise, and industry networks that contribute to technology validation, product–market fit, and commercial readiness.
The programme places strong emphasis on de-risking early-stage technologies and supporting startups as they progress toward growth, scalability, and sustainability. Venture builders will play a central role in matching high-potential startups with tailored support mechanisms that enhance their competitiveness and long-term viability.
Eligibility for participation in the call is limited to South African-based entities or consortia that are legally registered and demonstrate a strong track record in building sustainable deep tech businesses. Applicants must also show proven capacity to deliver complex, multi-stakeholder programmes and possess both technical and business capabilities relevant to venture building.
