Deadline Date: February 25, 2026
The Innovate UK is inviting applications for its Ofgem Strategic Innovation Fund to support high-potential Discovery Phase projects that accelerate the delivery of net zero at the lowest cost to consumers.
The Discovery Phase focuses on seven challenge areas: advanced energy transmission and networks, dynamic modelling, high energy demand point integration, consumer-centric grid expansion, enhanced system visibility and control, green gas, and whole system optimisation. Applicants are encouraged to consider how their project could progress from Discovery through to the subsequent Alpha and Beta phases and eventual commercialisation.
Projects in the Discovery Phase must request total funding of no more than £150,000, exclusive of VAT. The funding is designed to support innovative research and development without conferring an economic advantage to any organisation.
To be eligible, applicants must comply with the Subsidy Control Act 2022, ensuring they are not acting economically as defined by the act. In limited cases, EU State aid rules under the Windsor Framework may apply, allowing a ‘No Aid’ award in line with the R&D&I Framework.
