The RISE Syria Innovation Challenge is inviting applications to support private-sector organizations to submit innovative solutions that improve irrigation efficiency, strengthen climate resilience and support sustainable wheat production in Northwest Syria.
The challenge focuses on improving irrigation efficiency, reducing water use and costs, strengthening climate resilience, supporting climate-smart agriculture, improving wheat productivity and farmer decision-making, promoting sustainable groundwater management, enhancing food security and livelihoods, and encouraging innovative technological and non-technological solutions for efficient irrigation and water management.
The project brings together humanitarian expertise, local knowledge, agricultural experience, and private-sector innovation to identify sustainable and scalable solutions that address the challenges faced by farmers. The initiative primarily targets Southern Aleppo Governorate and surrounding areas, where water scarcity has become a major constraint to agricultural productivity, livelihoods, and food security.
These activities identified key issues affecting irrigation systems and agricultural production, including reduced rainfall, increasing drought frequency, declining groundwater levels, limited water availability, inefficient irrigation practices, rising irrigation costs, limited access to localized weather information and irrigation advisory services, and the growing impacts of climate change.
The maximum funding available under this opportunity is up to USD 200,000, with an implementation period of 6–8 months. Eligible applicants include legally registered private-sector entities such as private companies, agri-tech firms, engineering companies, technology providers, manufacturers, startups, social enterprises, and private-sector consortia. The lead applicant must be a legally registered private-sector entity.
