Deadline Date: May 20, 2026
The Inclusive Markets for Energy Efficiency in Uganda programme invites proposals from eligible organisations to support energy efficiency ventures aimed at improving market impact and sustainability in Uganda.
The programme focuses on promoting energy efficiency initiatives, strengthening inclusive market development, supporting sustainable energy ventures, enabling reduction of carbon emissions, enhancing last-mile and rural energy distribution, improving access to energy-efficient technologies, encouraging gender-responsive and inclusive business models, and strengthening after-sales and e-waste management systems within the energy sector.
IMEU-II is implemented under the Market Development Fund and follows a transparent selection process to identify high-impact and sustainable energy efficiency partners. The programme operates through two selection windows and supports targeted, lean interventions designed to achieve measurable market impact and value for money. The total funding available under this call is expected to be up to approximately 200,000 euros, depending on the scope and quality of proposals received and subject to funding availability.
Eligible Energy Efficient Service Companies participating under the RBF window must be registered and operating in Uganda, have at least three years of operational experience, and provide audited financial reports for the past three years. They must also submit current tax clearance documents, trade in UNBS quality-certified energy-efficient technologies, demonstrate strong last-mile and rural distribution capacity, and maintain systems for after-sales service and e-waste management. Additionally, they must show evidence of digital systems for customer and inventory tracking and commit to gender-responsive supply and marketing activities.
For SMEs and social institutions, eligibility requirements include legal registration and operation in Uganda, a minimum of two years of operation, and audited financial statements for the past two years. Applicants must demonstrate a clear business case for energy efficiency improvements, commit to co-financing arrangements, and provide evidence of measurable carbon emission reductions. They must also show inclusive business models involving groups such as farmers, women, and youth, be willing to share best practices, and comply with requirements related to the age of in-kind machinery used in projects.
Through IMEU-II, the programme seeks to support scalable and sustainable energy efficiency solutions that contribute to environmental sustainability while fostering inclusive economic growth in Uganda.
