Deadline Date: July 29, 2026
The Innovate UK is inviting applications to support innovative on-farm trials or experiments that test new ideas or solutions designed to address major on-farm or immediate post-farmgate challenges and opportunities.
The focus areas, of this initiative include agriculture, horticulture, and agro-forestry, with key objectives centered on improving productivity, strengthening resilience, and enhancing sustainability while supporting progression towards net zero farming.
The competition is designed to encourage practical experimentation on farms, where ideas or solutions that are either new or not yet widely used can be tested under real farming conditions. The purpose is to demonstrate how these innovations can effectively address significant challenges or unlock opportunities within farming and related sectors.
Projects supported under this competition must clearly show how they will benefit English farmers, growers, or foresters, including how the results will be communicated and shared during and after the project. This ensures that the knowledge generated is accessible and can be adopted more widely across the industry.
Eligible projects must fall within a total cost range of £50,000 to £200,000 and have a duration between 6 and 24 months. These parameters are intended to ensure that trials are substantial enough to generate meaningful results while remaining focused and time-bound.
Applicants must ensure compliance with relevant requirements, including the conditions associated with green box exemptions under the WTO Agreement on Agriculture, where applicable. Projects must be designed in a way that results in minimal or no distortion of trade and must adhere to the requirements set out under Annex 2 of the Agriculture Agreement.
