The wAtt-boost Youth Powered Startup Program offers to support young African entrepreneurs in building renewable energy and electrification startups through training, mentorship, and ecosystem access.
The program focuses on entrepreneurship and renewable energy solutions aimed at fostering innovation in start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures within the renewable energy and electrification sector. It supports the development of business proposals, including both new and ongoing projects, that aim to strengthen Africa’s renewable energy startup ecosystem.
Participants in the program compete for two monetary awards of €10,000 each, provided to the most promising startups that demonstrate strong potential and growth at the end of the program.
The initiative is launched by Enel Foundation with in-kind contributions from RES4Africa Foundation and Strathmore University, and it aims to nurture and expand renewable energy-focused businesses by offering a tailored training program for startups and entrepreneurs across Africa.
The program encourages solutions in areas such as artificial intelligence applications for optimizing energy production, distribution, and consumption, smart grid management, resilient energy grids and infrastructure for improved energy access, climate adaptation and mitigation technologies, clean cooking innovations, electric mobility solutions including charging infrastructure, and agrivoltaics that integrate agriculture with solar energy systems.
Eligibility requires entrepreneurs to be between 18 and 35 years old, with solutions targeting the African market. Applicants must either hold African citizenship or have a startup registered in Africa, and the startup must be at least one year old, operating within renewable energy and electrification domains. Applicants must also demonstrate English proficiency through recognized certification or equivalent education.
