EYElliance Pan-African Innovation Challenge for Optical Enterprises

Deadline Date: May 25, 2026

The EYElliance 2026 Pan-African Innovation Challenge is designed to support revenue-generating optical enterprises across Africa with catalytic capital and structured growth support to scale access to affordable eyeglasses.

The focus areas, objectives, priorities, and themes of this initiative include accelerating the growth of optical enterprises, expanding access to affordable eyeglasses in underserved markets, strengthening scalable retail optical business models, addressing operational constraints such as thin margins and working capital limitations, improving supply chain efficiency, and enabling evidence-backed innovations that support sustainable business expansion in the optical sector.

The challenge is hosted by the Optical Enterprise Growth Hub and is designed for entrepreneurs who are already operating revenue-generating optical retail businesses. It recognizes that many enterprises in the sector face significant structural barriers, including talent shortages, fragmented supply chains, and limited access to growth capital, even when they have strong operational foundations.

Through this initiative, selected enterprises will compete for up to $100,000 in catalytic growth capital aimed at testing or implementing innovations that can accelerate scale. The top prize includes a $50,000 grant along with eligibility for up to an additional $50,000 in subordinated debt. The second and third prizes offer grants of $30,000 and $20,000 respectively, providing staged support for high-potential businesses.

Beyond financial support, ten selected enterprises will gain access to a one-year membership in the Optical Enterprise Growth Hub. This includes structured tools and resources such as sector-specific playbooks, operator-led coaching, performance and data learning systems, retail-optical ERP tools, structured investment preparation support, and access to a peer community of growth-oriented founders.

The initiative is co-founded by EYElliance alongside experienced optical entrepreneurs and operators, reinforcing its practical, industry-driven approach. It is built specifically for retail optical businesses that are already generating revenue and have demonstrated market traction, with a clear intention to scale operations across multiple locations within approximately 18 months.

Eligible applicants include enterprises that have been operating for at least one year with active sales and are actively building scalable growth models. Both multi-store operators and strong single-store businesses with credible expansion plans are encouraged to apply.
