The Digitalise Your SME scheme provides non-repayable grants to support micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in Malta and Gozo to digitalise their operations and strengthen their competitiveness.
This Grant Scheme falls under Policy Objective 1 ‘A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity’ of SFC2021 Programme 2021-2027 ‘Towards a smarter, well connected and resilient economy, a greener environment and an integrated society’, and addresses the following Policy Objective and Specific Objective: PO1: Promoting entrepreneurship, in particular by facilitating the economic exploitation of new ideas and fostering the creation of new firms, including through business incubators. A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity. RSO1.2. Reaping the benefits of digitisation for citizens, companies, research organisations and public authorities (ERDF) .
The scheme aims to help enterprises enhance resilience, efficiency, productivity, and customer experience by investing in digital solutions. Eligible activities include hardware, software, and other digital technologies that support improved business processes such as product design, supply chain management, distribution, and after-sales services.
The programme has an allocated budget of €5,000,000 and will remain effective until 31 December 2026, subject to fund availability. Grants range from a minimum of €10,000 to a maximum of €128,400, with varying aid intensities depending on whether the application falls under the de minimis regulation or as a start-up. Additional incentives are available for projects involving advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing, quantum technology, Internet of Things (IoT), and big data analysis.
Applications are managed on a rolling basis, with periodic cut-off dates. Eligible proposals scoring at least 50% on the selection criteria may receive funding, subject to the availability of budget. Beneficiaries must ensure compliance with EU and national regulations, including state aid requirements, sustainable development principles, and the “Do No Significant Harm” principle.
The scheme is administered by the Measures and Support Division, acting as the Intermediate Body under the Ministry responsible for the management of Union Funds.
