Deadline Date: September 15, 2026
The Advanced Computing Projects Competition is designed to support researchers and organisations in Portugal by providing access to national advanced computing resources through a competitive allocation process.
The focus areas include promoting cooperation between advanced computing centres, strengthening national and international partnerships, and supporting research, development, and innovation activities through access to computational resources. The competition also focuses on enabling efficient use of advanced computing infrastructures and supporting scientific and technological development across multiple fields.
The initiative is implemented by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and aims to aggregate national advanced computing resources while encouraging collaboration between participating entities. It contributes to strengthening Portugal’s research and innovation ecosystem through structured access to computational capacity.
Applications are evaluated based on technical suitability to computational resources, reasonableness of requested resources, and planning for resource use. Eligibility and project assessment follow administrative validation procedures conducted prior to evaluation, in accordance with applicable regulations.
Eligible applicants include research and development institutions, collaborative laboratories, technological interface centres, science and technology infrastructures, networks and consortia, private non-profit R&D organisations, digital innovation hubs, other public and private non-profit institutions engaged in research and innovation, companies developing advanced computing projects, and individuals active in Portugal undertaking advanced computing work in any scientific field.
Applicants must submit details including project duration of up to 6 or 12 months depending on access type, requested computational resources, computational models and platform preferences such as HPC, SCC or VRE, project title and description, scientific and computational work plan, justification of resources, and team details including the responsible investigator.
