Deadline: 20 March 2025
The Lundbeck Foundation Start-Up Programme supports the development of Danish neuroscience by facilitating the process of recruiting researchers to permanent positions at Danish Universities or hospitals from abroad or from industry.
The Lundbeck Foundation has a strategic goal to make Denmark a frontrunner in the field of neuroscience by funding Danish-based research that promotes a better understanding of the brain and better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of brain disorders.
At the same time, their grants must help ensure that Denmark has the best graduates and scientists at all career levels in the fields of biomedical, clinical and health sciences in Denmark.
Theme
- The research field should fall within basic or clinical neuroscience, or science with clear relevance to neuroscience. The term ‘neuroscience’ is used here in its broadest sense, hence including medical, technical, natural, and social sciences as well as the humanities.
Funding Information
- DKK 7 mill for up to 4 years for associate professors.
- DKK 11 mill for up to 4 years for full professors.
Eligible Proposals
- Positions that align with the institution’s strategy for strengthening its scientific and educational activities within neuroscience
- Permanent positions with salaries covered by the institution
- Positions at the associate professor or professor level
- Candidates coming from active research positions outside Denmark or industry for at least two years prior to the recruitment
- Candidates that start with full-time commitment within a year after approval of the program
- Research proposals with short- or long-term impact on the advancement of neuroscience and/or therapies for nervous system disorders.
- Preapproval must be obtained before the candidate can submit a step-2 application.
Eligibility Criteria
- In the first step, only university or hospital leaders with hiring authority for permanent positions can apply. In the second step, once a preferred candidate has been identified for the given position, the candidate should submit a research proposal for final approval.
- It is a prerequisite that a similar grant has not been obtained from other sources.
Evaluation Process
- Preapproval by the Foundation’s Research and Prize Committee will be based on the position’s alignment with the institution’s strategy to strengthen its educational activities within neuroscience and promote a better understanding of the brain or better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of brain disorders.
- Final approval by the Lundbeck Foundation Board will depend on:
- Scientific excellence of the research proposal
- Candidate’s profile
- Strategic fit between the institution’s strategy and the research plan.
