Deadline Date: June 30, 2026
The Santander X Global Challenge | The Quantum AI Leap supports startups and scaleups developing innovative quantum and AI-based technologies with the potential to create significant social and economic impact.
The challenge focuses on Quantum Hardware, Sensors & AI-Assisted Technologies, Quantum Software, Tools & AI-Driven Applied Intelligence, Quantum-Safe Digital Infrastructure, innovative technology development, new technology applications, new business models, new processes, AI-enabled hardware and control systems, quantum computing technologies, quantum communication networks, programming tools, simulators, hybrid platforms, AI-driven software and algorithms, quantum-inspired solutions, logistics, finance, chemistry, industrial processes, quantum-proof cryptography, secure communication technologies, and protection against future quantum-related cybersecurity threats.
The challenge aims to enhance startups and scaleups operating in selected countries where Santander Group is present. It seeks to reward and support entrepreneurial solutions that leverage quantum and artificial intelligence technologies to address emerging opportunities and challenges.
Participants are required to submit a project under one of the three challenge verticals. Applicants whose solutions span multiple areas must select the category that best represents their project and against which they wish to be evaluated.
The first vertical covers physical technologies that enable quantum systems, including lasers, photonics, sensors, cryogenics, chips, control electronics, and other equipment necessary for operating, scaling, and stabilizing quantum computers and communication networks. It also includes AI-enabled hardware and control systems used to design, operate, or scale quantum and related technologies.
The second vertical focuses on software solutions that make quantum technologies useful and accessible. This includes programming tools, simulators, hybrid platforms, AI-driven software, and quantum-inspired algorithms designed to improve areas such as logistics, finance, chemistry, and industrial processes using classical hardware.
The third vertical is dedicated to quantum-safe digital infrastructure. It supports solutions that protect existing digital systems from future quantum threats through quantum-resistant cryptography, migration tools for current systems, and secure communication technologies.
Winning startup participants will receive a cash prize of €10,000 for the development of their entrepreneurial solution. Winning scaleup participants will receive a cash prize of €30,000 to further develop their solution.
All applications must demonstrate innovation through a feasible and credible new technology, technology application, business model, or process. Applicants are expected to indicate the maturity of the technology and provide information regarding any patents or intellectual property strategy associated with the solution.
Projects must be technology-based and focused on the development and/or manufacturing of products or services that systematically apply advanced scientific or technological knowledge to bring new offerings to the market.
Startup applicants must be legally incorporated in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay, the United States, or the United Kingdom. They must currently market a product or service with annual sales revenue not exceeding $300,000, or have raised up to $5 million in capital, or employ up to five full-time employees.
Scaleup applicants must be legally incorporated for at least two years in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay, the United States, or the United Kingdom. They must currently market a product or service with annual sales exceeding $300,000, or have raised more than $5 million in capital, or employ more than five full-time employees.
