Deadline Date: September 16, 2026
EIT Health has launched the Transformative Healthcare Instrument (THI) 2026 to support high-potential healthcare start-ups with funding aimed at accelerating innovation, product development, commercialisation, and future fundraising across Europe.
The programme focuses on innovative solutions in biotech, medtech, digital health, artificial intelligence (AI), and biomarkers or diagnostics. It is designed to help companies advance product development, strengthen commercialisation strategies, prepare for the next stage of fundraising, and address unmet clinical needs across Europe.
The Transformative Healthcare Instrument is intended for private Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) with at least four full-time equivalent employees. Eligible companies must have secured a minimum total equity investment of €2,000,000 within the previous 36 months, with at least one new investor contributing during that period.
Projects applying for funding must meet the required Innovation Maturity Levels (IML) according to their sector. Biotech projects must have reached IML 5 or above at the Safety/Toxicity study stage. Medtech projects must have achieved IML 6 or above at the Initial clinical Proof of Concept stage. Digital health projects must be at IML 7 or above with market validation, while Biomarker and Diagnostics projects must also have reached IML 7 or above.
Successful applicants may request funding ranging from €300,000 to €500,000. EIT Health will provide funding for up to 50% of the total project costs, while the remaining 50% must be secured by the applicant through other funding sources.
