Deadline Date: August 12, 2026
The King Baudouin Foundation has announced its applications to support the development of a circular alternative to the silo tire made from recycled tire materials.
The project focuses on developing a functional and circular alternative to silo tires through a stage-gated innovation process, using design thinking, active farmer involvement, and the creation of a validated prototype made from recycled tire materials.
On livestock farms across Belgium, worn-out car tires are commonly used to secure tarpaulins covering grass and maize silage. These tires pose environmental and health concerns due to the leaching of harmful substances, the spread of microplastics, and the creation of breeding grounds for insects. Green’er is supporting the development of a sustainable alternative that addresses these challenges while making use of recycled tire materials.
The funding available ranges from €75,000 to €125,000. The opportunity is open to companies, knowledge institutions, and mixed consortia in Belgium. They will fund one multidisciplinary team to develop this circular solution over a period of 12 to 18 months. The project will progress through a stage-gated process, beginning with scoping and continuing until a validated prototype is achieved.
