Deadline: 3 June 2024
The Space Factory 4.0 Program of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union and managed by the Italian Space Agency aims to establish a network of factories, connected with the production chain, dedicated to the creation of small satellites and spread throughout the national territory, from north to south.
An integrated system of innovative technologies that will allow the country system to face the challenges of the Space Economy, and position itself as an international excellence in the satellite constellation sector.
This is the context in which the Challenge proposed by the Lazio Region was born, through Lazio Innova, and Thales Alenia Space.
General Objectives
- The Thales Alenia Space Italia Challenge is aimed at identifying and proposing solutions (also in terms of technologies) that make it possible to develop intelligent factories (Smart Factories) based on integrated lines for Assembly, Integration and Testing (AIT) to be used on components on board small satellites (having a launch mass of less than 50 kg and/or between 50 and 250 kg, up to a maximum of 300 kg) to be developed in an innovative, open and digitalised logic.
- The objective is to demonstrate that their use allows us to reach a production capacity of at least 1 satellite per day.
Specific Objectives
- Automatic assembly (absence of operators) in a factory environment of elementary satellite modules
- Reduction in the weight and cost of the cabling currently present on satellites together with increased ease of assembly with automatic systems (Cobot/Robot)
- Reduction in size (volume), mass and cost of mechanical structures supporting solar cells and satellite antennas
What they offer?
- Co-design path
- For the development and focus of the proposed solution.
- Lazio Innova offers:
- for 1st place:
- A cash prize worth 20,000 Euros;
- An award in specialist services.
- For 2nd and 3rd place:
- A prize in specialist services.
- The awards in specialist services are aimed at the development and implementation of the project/product and relate to:
- business management and planning;
- protection of intellectual property;
- marketing and communication;
- financial engineering tools (access to credit, crowdfunding, national measures,
- accelerators, etc.);
- product engineering (from MVP to prototype or from prototype to product).
- for 1st place:
- Thales Alenia Space offers: (in collaboration with Lazio Innova)
- for all classified: testing of the proposed solution at Thales Alenia Space Italia and in particular at its FabLab (compatibly with available equipment), for a duration of no more than 1 week for each of the selected ideas. At the end of the experimentation, a presentation of the results achieved will be made.
- for startups and innovative SMEs: inclusion in the Thales Group database for monitoring these actors and promotion in the investment instruments of the Thales Group and the LEONARDO Group.
Who is it aimed at?
- Startup innovative registered in the appropriate sections of the Company Register
- Other startups consisting of no more than 60 months
- PMI e PMI innovative
- Spin-off of Universities or Research Centres.
