iCreate Aerodynamic Blade Challenge (India)

Deadline: 31 July 2024

iCreate is seeking applications for its Aerodynamic Blade Challenge to support promising innovators through product development and commercialisation, linking them with customers and investors.

Blades are critical components in various applications where airflow and aerodynamics are paramount, manipulating air gradients and directing airflow efficiently. Innovative blade design is crucial for performance and efficiency. For example, in ventilation systems, blades should maximise airflow while minimising noise and energy consumption. In propellers, blades should optimise thrust and reduce drag, increasing turbine efficiency. From curved and swept-back blades for increased lift, to serrated edges that reduce noise and improve stability, innovations in blade design have revolutionised countless industries. These advancements enhance performance and reduce the power required for airflow – contributing to cost savings and environmental sustainability.

What you will get?

  • Incubation support and funding up to Rs 50 lakh.
  • Mentoring for product development from industry experts.
  • Access to state-of-the-art research facilities and laboratories
  • Guidance in IP protection.
  • Customer and investor connects.

Innovation Parameters

  • Airflow volume: Maximise the volume of air extracted to ensure effective air flow.
  • Power usage: Minimise the energy consumption required to operate the system.
  • Noise levels: Reduce the noise generated by the system to ensure quiet operation in a targeted environment.
  • Blade size: Optimise the size and shape of the blades to achieve the best balance between airflow, power consumption, and noise reduction.
  • Suggestions for Innovative Elements:
    • Material innovation: Explore novel materials such as composite polymers, carbon fibre, or advanced ceramics that offer high strength-to-weight ratio, efficient airflow properties, and low friction to minimise power consumption and noise.
    • Variable geometry blades: Adapt to different airflow conditions with blades that change their pitch or shape dynamically, based on the required activity and/ or air pressure, maximising efficiency while minimising noise.
    • Bio-inspired/ Biomimetic design: Take inspiration from nature to design blades that mimic the airflow patterns found in bird wings or fish fins, and which optimise airflow while reducing noise.
    • Cost-effectiveness: Develop solutions that maintain quality while reducing manufacturing costs. Ensure your design is manufacturable, considering cost, material availability, and ease of assembly.

Who can apply?

  • They welcome applications from startups, innovators, academics, and researchers who are ready to showcase their commitment to technological advancement and entrepreneurship. To ensure the viability and impact of the proposed innovations, all applications must be supported by:
    • Sound Research: Applicants should provide evidence of rigorous research that underpins their blade technology innovations.
    • Working Level Proof of Concept: A minimum working prototype or demonstrable proof of concept is required to illustrate the practical application and effectiveness of the design. Purely theoretical ideas without any empirical support or PoC or prototype will not be accepted.
    • Their selection process favours teams that demonstrate a clear pathway to commercialization and the potential to contribute significantly to their respective fields through entrepreneurial initiatives.
    • Disclaimer: Selection and support are at the sole discretion of iCreate and are subject to final review by their panel of experts.
