City of Greater Geelong Climate Change Partnership Grants (Australia)

The grants are delivered through a co-design approach, partnering with community groups and businesses to implement meaningful, local action. They welcome bold new ideas and proven project models alike—whether you’re piloting something innovative or scaling up an existing initiative.

Objectives

• The objectives of the grant are to:
  • Increase greening Greater Geelong, including tree planting and habitat restoration.
  • Build community awareness about how a changing climate affects them.
  • Boost energy efficiency and local renewable energy generation.
  • Support the transition to a net zero emissions municipality by 2035.
  • Encourage a shift to sustainable transport and cleaner fuels.
  • Help store more carbon naturally through soils and vegetation.
  • Strengthen local networks and collaboration for long-term impact.

Focus Areas

• Their focus this year is greening Greater Geelong through planting trees, creating biodiverse landscapes, and expanding green spaces. These efforts contribute to stronger, healthier neighbourhoods while building resilience to the impacts of a changing climate.

Funding Information

• You may request up to $50,000.
• The total amount of funding available for Climate Change Partnerships Grants is $180,000.

What can you apply for?

• To help you work out whether your project is the sort of thing they are looking to fund, they have developed the following list of example projects and costs they might cover.
  • They will fund:
    • Types of projects
      • Projects within the City of Greater Geelong’s municipal boundaries
      • Emissions reduction activities:
        • Plant and trees planting programs, both in urban and rural areas
        • Community awareness, education and training, mentoring, masterclasses, communication resources, workshops
        • Renewable energy bulk-buy programs
        • Programs supporting transition to electric homes and businesses, and increased access to renewables or power purchase agreements and community-owned renewable energy projects
        • Climate safer places and energy efficiency upgrades to support community members most vulnerable to climate change impacts
    • Types of expenses
      • Venue hire, (including City of Greater Geelong venues)
      • Contractors engaged to deliver a project
      • Consultants or contractors’
      • Equipment required to deliver the project’s aims

Who is eligible to apply?

• Being eligible means, you can receive a grant, but it does not guarantee funding. To apply for this grant, you must be one of the following:
  • incorporated not-for-profit organisation
  • unincorporated group with an auspice
  • registered charitable organisation
  • school or learning institution – only if in partnership with at least one other school or not-for-profit organisation
  • business.

Who cannot apply?

• You are not eligible to apply if you are any of the following:
  • individual operating as sole traders (with an active ABN)
  • individual (without an ABN)
  • previous applicant with an outstanding acquittal for grant funding from the City
  • applicant who has not complied with the terms of a previous funding agreement
  • entity involved in legal proceedings related to winding up its operations, experiencing insolvency or bankruptcy (includes any legal bankruptcy related actions against an entity’s directors or officers)
  • entity with outstanding debt to the City of Greater Geelong or in legal proceedings with the City.
