Deadline Date: June 14, 2026
The Athlii Gwaii Legacy Revitalization Grant supports projects that strengthen economic diversification, resilience, and self-sustainability for communities and residents of Haida Gwaii.
The program focuses on supporting economic development on Haida Gwaii through local skills training partnerships with colleges and institutions, food security initiatives including food production, distribution and storage, inter-island ferry and transportation services, boat building, locally processed forest products, trail development and maintenance, tourism, barge and container loading facilities, and recycling facilities. The grant also promotes job creation, local business opportunities, island-wide benefits, leveraging external funding, collaboration with development groups, and community consultation.
The Revitalization Grant is designed to support capital projects that create jobs on Haida Gwaii and contribute to long-term economic diversification. Through this initiative, Athlii Gwaii Legacy aims to enhance sustainability, security, and sovereignty while fostering stronger and more resilient communities.
Funding is available to eligible Haida Gwaii-based organizations that meet the Gwaii Trust Society residency requirement of operating within the community for at least five consecutive years. Eligible applicants include not-for-profit organizations, local governments, sole proprietorships, and incorporated companies. All proposed projects must be located in Haida Gwaii.
Applicants are required to complete a two-part application process. The first stage includes basic project information such as the funding request, project description, alignment with fund goals, scope of work, activities, deliverables, and project timeline. Following an initial review, eligible applicants may proceed to the second stage, which requires detailed budgets, project schedules, business plans, operational and maintenance plans, team qualifications, feasibility studies, supporting resolutions, engineering designs, and permit information.
Applications are evaluated through a comprehensive review process that considers economic diversification and sustainability, island well-being, technical feasibility, financial strength, project management capacity, and community engagement. Projects are assessed on their ability to deliver social and economic benefits, create employment opportunities, demonstrate long-term viability, and gain community support.
Successful applicants must enter into a funding agreement before receiving funding. Up to 40 percent of the approved contribution may be disbursed once the agreement is signed, with subsequent payments tied to project milestones. Recipients are also required to submit progress and final reports to demonstrate project outcomes and compliance with funding requirements.
