Deadline Date: July 31, 2026
The Schmidt Marine Technology Partners Funding Program supports the development and deployment of innovative ocean technologies that contribute to marine conservation, sustainable fisheries, habitat restoration, ocean observation, and the growth of the marine technology community.
The program focuses on sustaining fisheries through technologies that reduce bycatch, reduce ghost gear, survey fish populations, increase seafood supply-chain transparency, increase transparency at sea, redesign fishing gear for greater sustainability, monitor protected marine areas, and improve enforcement; habitat health through technologies that restore and protect marine ecosystems, including seaweed, seagrass, shellfish, and coral, as well as solutions that monitor, mitigate, or prevent coastal pollution and reduce the impacts of invasive species; ocean observing through novel sensor technologies, ocean data collection, processing and sharing technologies, and other innovations that expand monitoring capabilities for restoration and research; and network support through services, tools, incubators, accelerators, competitions, community infrastructure, and regional technology deployment initiatives that strengthen the marine technology ecosystem.
The program is dedicated to helping promising ocean technologies move from innovative ideas to real-world impact. By supporting the development and application of new technologies, the initiative aims to address some of the most pressing challenges facing marine environments and coastal communities worldwide.
Funding is available for projects that improve the sustainability of wild-caught fisheries, strengthen marine habitat protection and restoration efforts, and enhance the ability of researchers and conservation practitioners to collect and utilize ocean data. The program also recognizes the importance of strong support networks and invests in organizations that provide resources, infrastructure, and collaboration opportunities for the broader marine technology community.
Eligible applicants include universities, non-profit organizations, and start-up companies working on innovative ocean technology solutions. The program does not provide grants to individuals unless they are applying through an eligible university, non-profit organization, or start-up company.
Most grants awarded through the program range between $100,000 and $400,000, providing critical support for the development, testing, and deployment of technologies that contribute to healthier and more sustainable oceans.
