The Forest Sector Investment and Innovation Program is inviting grant applications to support investment and innovation projects that enhance productivity, competitiveness, and market growth within Ontario’s forest sector.
The programme focuses on forest sector investment, innovation, productivity improvement, market expansion, regional economic development, supply chain strengthening, innovative technologies, product and process innovation, business growth, job creation, forestry manufacturing, wood and biomass processing, secondary wood manufacturing, bio-product development, and integration into regional and global supply chains.
The Forest Sector Investment and Innovation Program aims to encourage businesses to invest in projects that improve the performance and competitiveness of Ontario’s forest industry. The programme supports the development and implementation of innovative technologies, products, services, and processes across the sector.
The programme includes two funding streams: the business projects stream and the collaboration projects stream. Business projects support capital investment initiatives led by for-profit forestry companies, while collaboration projects support partnerships involving forestry companies, industry associations, forestry-related not-for-profits, and academia.
The initiative is part of Ontario’s Forest Sector Strategy, which seeks to foster business growth, promote innovation, and help the industry adapt to changing market conditions. Supported projects are expected to generate benefits for applicants, regional economies, and Ontario’s broader forest sector.
Eligible applicants include for-profit forest sector businesses registered to conduct business in Ontario. This includes manufacturers and processors of wood and forest biomass, sawmills, pulp and paper mills, secondary wood manufacturers, furniture makers, and bio-product manufacturers using forestry-based inputs.
Funding support of up to 30 percent of eligible project costs is available in the form of grants, with a maximum funding amount of $3 million.
