Applications are now open under the Technology Adoption Program delivered by the Province of Nova Scotia under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership to support farms, Mi’kmaq farmers, and agri-businesses in adopting innovative technologies that improve productivity, efficiency, and competitiveness in the agriculture sector.
The opportunity focuses on supporting the purchase of equipment and technology that advance agricultural operations through automation, enhanced efficiency, increased production capacity, quality improvements, labour efficiency, reduced production costs, improved input use efficiency, and adoption of innovative on-farm technologies. The program is designed within the broader context of strengthening Nova Scotia’s agriculture and agri-food sector through innovation and competitiveness. It provides financial assistance to eligible applicants to help integrate new or improved technologies into farm and agri-business operations, supporting modernization and improved operational performance across the sector.
Eligible applicants include registered farms, Mi’kmaq individuals engaged in farming in Mi’kmaw communities, and agri-businesses eligible only under Stream 1. Farms must be registered under the Farm Registration Act, actively farming, 19 years or older, and have at least $30,000 in annual eligible gross farming income. Agri-businesses must generate a minimum of $30,000 in annual eligible income, demonstrate involvement in Nova Scotia agriculture and agri-food products, and provide proof of purchasing required levels of local agricultural inputs based on income, ranging from $5,000 to $25,000.
The program provides funding across three streams and income levels, with support covering up to 50% of eligible costs. Stream 1 and Stream 3 offer annual funding of up to $10,000, $25,000, or $50,000 depending on income, while Stream 2 offers up to $50,000 across all income levels. Stream 1 supports automation and food processing technologies, Stream 2 funds new or first-use technologies in Nova Scotia, and Stream 3 supports precision agriculture tools such as GPS and monitoring systems.
