Deadline Date: May 15, 2026
The Call for Advanced Computing Projects is mow currently accepting applications to support research, development, and innovation projects by providing access to advanced computing resources in Portugal.
The Focus areas, include aggregation of national advanced computing resources, promotion of cooperation among computing centres, development of national and international partnerships, use of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence computing, cloud computing, visualisation resources, software performance testing, code optimisation, scalability testing, benchmarking, and research and innovation activities.
The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) leads this initiative with the aim of strengthening national advanced computing capacity and encouraging collaboration between various research and technology institutions. It also promotes partnerships with both national and international entities involved in science and technology development.
The programme supports a wide range of applicants, including research and development institutions, collaborative laboratories, technology interface centres, science and technology infrastructures, scientific networks and consortia, private non-profit institutions focused on research activities, digital innovation hubs, and other public or private non-profit organizations involved in research, development, or innovation.
It also allows participation from companies engaged in pre-competitive research and innovation projects related to advanced computing, provided that the outcomes do not yet have commercial value. Individuals working in Portugal who wish to develop advanced computing projects in any scientific field are also eligible to apply.
The programme defines different access levels for computing resources. A0 access is intended for experimental use by teams with no prior experience, allowing them to explore available computing resources for a period of six months. A1 access focuses on development activities such as software testing, optimisation, scalability evaluation, and benchmarking, with project durations ranging from three to twelve months.
All applications under A0 and A1 categories are evaluated based on technical suitability for advanced computing resources, reasonableness of computational resource requests, and the clarity and quality of the proposed work plan. Technical validation is carried out by expert teams responsible for operating the computing platforms.
