Funding available for Sustainable Battery Business Models (Sweden)

Deadline Date: April 21, 2026

Applications are now open for the Sustainable Battery Business Models Grant Program to support collaborative projects focused on developing innovative business models and integrated solutions for sustainable battery applications.

The initiative aims to strengthen competitiveness in the battery sector, promote implementation of innovative solutions, accelerate electrification and the transition to a fossil-free society, enhance sustainability in terms of climate, environment and resource efficiency, and improve societal resilience through secure and robust battery systems across applications such as vehicles, work machines, energy storage, grid stabilization, security and data storage.

In parallel, the development of solutions must primarily rely on integrating existing battery technologies, components and subsystems, along with software and service innovations. Projects should aim to deliver commercially viable, user-oriented solutions with strong attention to system integration, performance optimization, and sustainability aspects such as reuse and recycling. The focus remains on battery systems and their interaction with energy supply and usage components rather than upstream manufacturing or raw material processes.

The expected outcomes include scalable and competitive business models, viable battery-based solutions that support electrification, strengthened business ecosystems, improved organizational capabilities for implementation, and clear strategies for future scaling. Projects are also required to contribute to broader sustainability goals, including climate action and gender equality, and ensure that any scientific outputs are made openly accessible.

Projects can receive funding of up to SEK 4 million, with a maximum duration of 26 months. The funding covers eligible costs such as salaries, equipment, consulting services, and other direct and indirect expenses, subject to specified limits and state aid regulations. The call is open to collaborations involving at least three legal entities, including at least one potential supplier and one potential customer of the proposed solution. The coordinating organisation must be a Swedish legal entity operating in Sweden, and the project manager must be employed by this entity.
