Deadline Date: August 16, 2026
The European Commission is requesting grant applications to advance the objectives of the coal sector under the Research Fund for Coal and Steel framework.
The focus areas of this topic include supporting the just transition of the coal sector and regions, improving health and safety, and minimising the environmental impacts of coal mines in transition. There is no annual priority specified for this topic.
This topic concerns RFCS Accompanying Measures (AMs). These measures are intended to promote the use of knowledge gained through research activities and to support the organisation of dedicated workshops or conferences related to RFCS projects or priorities.
Accompanying measures are expected to ensure balanced representation within project consortia. This includes participation from academia, research centres, industry and industry associations, as well as actors involved in the just transition process.
The measures should also involve stakeholders that are necessary for the successful transition of coal regions. In addition, they may provide suggestions for policy initiatives that contribute to the digital, green and circular transformation of coal communities in line with the European Green Deal.
The total funding available under this topic is €1,000,000.
Eligible applicants include legal entities such as public or private bodies, undertakings, public authorities, research organisations, higher or secondary education establishments, and other legal entities that carry out research and technological development activities or make a substantial contribution to such activities.
Applicants must be established in eligible countries, including European Union Member States, overseas countries and territories associated with the European Union, and non-EU countries associated with the Research Fund for Coal and Steel.
