Deadline Date: February 15, 2026
The Institut français offers funding to support galleries in Germany that promote contemporary French artists.
The program focuses on strengthening partnerships with commercial galleries that network artists within the local art market, particularly supporting exhibitions of contemporary visual artists. Eligible projects include first solo presentations of emerging French artists or artists living in France in Germany. The priorities include funding monographic exhibitions by emerging artists, facilitating travel and accommodation for artists and their assistants, covering fees for preparatory trips, documentation, technical equipment, transportation and insurance, communication and publication costs, and ensuring that at least 50% of the project budget is met by the gallery itself. Production, reception, and administrative costs are excluded.
Galleries applying for this support must have a legal form (company, business, etc., excluding freelancers), be based in Germany, have full-time management, trade in works by contemporary visual artists, and regularly organize exhibition projects in their premises or at trade fairs. Subsidies for eligible galleries typically range from €1,000 to €2,000, with the maximum grant covering 50% of the total project budget. Funding is allocated in two installments: 80% at the start of the project and 20% upon submission of a valid financial and activity report. A balanced project financial statement and activity report must be provided at the end of the project, along with supporting documents corresponding to the amount of the grant.
Applications must include a completed application form, a detailed project description, portfolios and CVs of the artists, a detailed financing plan, and an official document containing the gallery’s bank details. The funding program prioritizes exhibitions that are new to the gallery’s regular program and aims to promote the work of artists who are either from France or have lived there for at least five years. Applications should preferably be submitted by the deadline specified on the Bureau’s website.
