Deadline: 29 November 2024
The Asia New Zealand Foundation Te Whītau Tūhono is offering five fully funded spots for emerging leaders in New Zealand’s pet industry to join a business delegation to Japan in April 2025.
The week-long programme will give participants a better understanding of the pet industry in Japan and allow participants to attend Interpets, one of the largest international trade fairs for the pet industry in Japan
They are looking for Kiwi companies with innovative brands and products who are exploring the potential to export to the region. They are not looking for companies in the service sector.
About the Trip
- The Japanese pet-related market is large and growing, estimated to be worth over 20 NZD billion, growing 1.8 percent year-on-year. This offers exciting opportunities for New Zealand companies looking to enter the market.
- Joining delegation will give participants the opportunity to:
- learn more about the Japanese business environment, current innovation and potential for collaboration within the pet product sector, with a focus on manufacturing and distribution.
- explore opportunities to increase understanding and collaboration between New Zealand and Japan inside a niche/growing sector for both countries.
- meet and connect with Asian business leaders to build relevant connections and networks.
- gain insights and connections into the pet industry and ecosystems in the wider Asia context.
Covered Expenses
- The Foundation will cover:
- Return economy airfare
- Domestic transport
- Accommodation
- Meals and related programme expenses.
- Participants will need to cover any additional personal spending money and travel insurance (mandatory).
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible, you must:
- be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
- have started or be a senior leader in a New Zealand pet-related business. The business should be of a size where you are looking for export opportunities and can make the most of the opportunity provided.
- This opportunity is aimed at supporting individual development; therefore, it is non-transferable.
- As this is a funded opportunity, they encourage all emerging business leaders and founders of early-stage businesses to apply. For corporates or those in a position to fully-fund themselves, they will accept applications and make a decision on the final cohort after all applications are submitted.
Selection Criteria
- In addition to assessing each company or business leader’s individual potential, the final selection of the delegation will focus on choosing a mix of businesses that creates the most cohesive and complementary group. This is to ensure the relevance of in-country meetings for all those selected to take part.
