The European Commission has announced the funding opportunity aimed at phasing out fossil fuels in energy intensive industries through the efficient integration of renewable energy sources.
The focus is on phase out fossil fuel in energy intensive industries through the efficient integration of renewable energy sources.
This call under Horizon Europe is designed to support innovation that accelerates the shift away from fossil fuel reliance in highly energy-demanding sectors. By promoting the uptake and integration of renewable energy solutions, the initiative seeks to address one of the most pressing challenges in the industrial transition toward climate neutrality.
The opportunity targets projects that can provide scalable and efficient methods to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels, particularly in industries where energy demand is historically difficult to decarbonize. Proposals are expected to present practical approaches that enable renewable energy sources to be adopted more widely, thereby lowering carbon emissions while improving long-term energy sustainability.
Funding under this call emphasizes practical industrial transformation, where renewable technologies are not just tested but integrated into real-world operations. This makes the program especially critical for industries that must find feasible pathways to reduce emissions without compromising performance, competitiveness, or efficiency.
The Commission estimates that an EU contribution of around EUR 7.50 million would allow these outcomes to be addressed appropriately. Nonetheless, this does not preclude submission and selection of a proposal requesting different amounts.
This topic is funded under HORIZON Innovation Actions. The budget available is approximately €15,000,000.
