Deadline Date: May 03, 2026
The ESA Business Incubation Centre (BIC) Northern Germany offers a dedicated incubation opportunity for space-related startups to establish and scale their businesses with structured support.
The programme focuses on Aerospace, Artificial Intelligence, Automotive & Mobility, MedTech, and Robotics, bringing together innovation areas where space technology or space-based services such as satellite communication, navigation, or earth observation play a central role.
The programme is open on a rolling basis with periodic evaluations, allowing applicants from Bremen and other northern German states to apply at any time unless stated otherwise. Selected startups receive incubation support along with access to expertise, infrastructure, and business development guidance.
The financial support, referred to as the Incentive Amount, varies by location. In Bremen, startups can receive up to 30,000 EUR for external services such as marketing, prototyping, consulting, and travel-related costs, but not for direct labour.
In Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the total support can reach up to 60,000 EUR, with a portion allocated for similar external services, and in Schleswig-Holstein also covering direct labour costs. Additionally, a general ESA contribution of up to 25,000 EUR must be spent within Germany. The funding is structured as a ceiling amount and disbursed based on progress and official approvals.
Eligibility is limited to startups that are either not yet founded or are less than five years old, or three years in Schleswig-Holstein, and must demonstrate a clear connection to space technology or applications.
Applicants must hold a valid work permit in Germany for the duration of the incubation. The applying entrepreneurs must retain majority ownership of their company, ensuring they carry the business risk. For individuals who have not yet incorporated, proof of company formation progress and intended structure must be included, as contracts can only be signed with a legal entity.
