The Ontario Automotive Modernization Program is offering to support small- and medium-sized automotive companies in improving operational efficiency, adopting new technologies, and expanding product offerings.
The program objectives include increasing suppliers’ ability to deliver shorter design cycle times to respond to market changes and opportunities with auto assemblers, encouraging the adoption of new software and hardware technologies that improve efficiency and reduce costs, supporting the development of tools and technologies to innovate product lines or modernize processes, enhancing the global competitiveness of small- and medium-sized suppliers, helping companies identify and solve manufacturing problems such as production bottlenecks and inefficiencies, and contributing to the development of capable, qualified, and innovative suppliers who can support auto assemblers in Ontario.
Through O-AMP, businesses can receive up to $150,000 to cover up to 50% of eligible project costs, with smaller projects eligible for funding up to $50,000 and larger projects ranging from $50,000 to $150,000.
Eligible applicants include small- and medium-sized Ontario-based enterprises with fewer than 500 employees and less than $1 billion in global revenue, with at least 30% of total sales coming from the automotive sector. Companies must have a CRA Business Number, operate in the automotive supply chain to OEMs of passenger and commercial vehicles, and be for-profit legal entities or limited partnerships registered in Ontario. Applicants must own or lease a manufacturing facility in Ontario where the project will take place, provide a minimum of two consecutive years of financial statements, comply with all applicable laws, and be free of any fees, levies, charges, or taxes owed to Ontario or its agencies. Companies in the aftermarket parts industry are not eligible, but suppliers for electric vehicles or EV battery components are considered.
The program is designed to help automotive suppliers adopt Industry 4.0 technologies, improve production efficiency, modernize processes, and increase competitiveness in the global automotive market while supporting innovation and problem-solving at the local manufacturing level.
