Deadline Date: June 02, 2026
The European Space Agency (ESA) is inviting proposals for innovative services that advance wildfire management using space technology and data to support wildfire response across Europe.
The program focuses on wildfire response, emphasizing early detection of wildfires, near-real-time fire evolution monitoring, fire behaviour simulation, and prediction. The initiative is guided by priorities identified in collaboration with European fire and rescue services, civil protection agencies, and forest management authorities.
Wildfires in Europe’s Southern Mediterranean region and parts of Central and Eastern Europe have increased in frequency and intensity in recent years, causing environmental, economic, and social consequences. These include extensive damage to lives, natural resources, and property, disruption of local economies, impacts on tourism and trade, and the release of pollutants affecting air quality and human health. Human activity and urban-forest interface expansion have exacerbated these risks, highlighting the need for innovative management solutions.
ESA is looking for motivated teams that can demonstrate credible business and technical expertise, promising ideas for space applications, and clear pathways to implementable solutions. Proposals should show customer engagement and clearly identified needs, market potential for commercially viable services, technical feasibility, and added value from the use of space data or space-based technologies.
Successful applicants will receive zero-equity funding, technical and commercial guidance, access to ESA’s network and partners, and the credibility of the ESA brand. Later in the year, ESA will also launch a funding call focusing on wildfire preparedness, including risk assessments, fuel load management, and the application of preventative measures and environmental adaptations.
