The Martha Farrell Award for Excellence in Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality is a unique initiative that seeks to recognize and honor individuals and organizations making significant contributions to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The award focuses on discovering and celebrating mid-career professionals and committed institutions that have worked to promote women’s empowerment, gender equality, and living feminism in everyday life. Its primary objectives include recognizing innovative, practical, and comprehensive approaches to social and organizational change that advance gender equality, highlighting personal examples and role models who practice feminist values daily, and providing a platform for winners to grow, network, and connect with like-minded professionals and institutions.
Nominations are open in two main categories. The “Most Promising Individual” category is for professionals of any gender, between ages 25 and 40, working in government, business, industry, or civil society organizations in India, who have consistently worked for at least five years to promote women’s empowerment or gender equality across workplaces, communities, educational institutions, or society at large. The award recognizes those with innovative approaches to social change and personal role models of feminist values. The “Best Organisation for Gender Equality” category targets any registered organization, department, or campaign in India, including government, business, industry, educational, health, media, unions, federations, or civil society entities. Eligible organizations must have actively implemented systems and practices to mainstream gender both internally and externally, creating a gender-sensitive and equal workplace environment, with consistent efforts over a minimum of five years, and demonstrating innovative and practical strategies for cultural and political change toward gender equality.
Winners of the Martha Farrell Award receive a prize money component of INR 1,50,000 each, along with recognition and a platform to expand their professional networks in the field of gender empowerment.
