The Institut français offers funding support to institutions presenting the work of French artists or artists living in France for at least five years.
The program prioritizes first solo presentations of emerging French artists or artists residing in France in Germany, aiming to foster international exposure and cultural exchange.
The funding focuses on supporting international and national travel expenses, transportation costs, insurance, taxes and permits, artist fees, accommodation and daily allowances, technical costs including equipment rental and exhibition materials, communication and publication costs, administrative expenses, and other project-related costs specified in the application.
Eligible expenses include travel and living costs for French or France-based artists and their assistants, fees for artists, technicians, lecturers, and translators, technical equipment rental and material costs, transport and insurance, communication and publication costs, while costs for the production of artworks, administrative expenses, and hospitality are excluded.
Eligible institutions include non-profit organizations such as associations, cooperatives, and trade unions, entities directly managed by public administrations, companies or businesses (excluding freelancers), and other legally recognized organizations as specified in the application form. Grants awarded range from €1,000 to €5,000 for solo or group exhibitions, with the exact amount depending on the number of applications received throughout the year and may not exceed 50% of the total project budget. Production and reception costs are excluded from funding. Subsidies for galleries may range from €1,000 to €2,000 following application review.
The funding is disbursed in two installments, with 80% of the grant paid at the project’s start after the agreement is signed, and the remaining 20% released upon submission of a valid financial and activity report. Institutions must provide a balanced financial statement and activity report at the project’s conclusion, along with copies of supporting documents equivalent to the amount of funding received.
Required documents for the application include a completed application form, detailed project description, artists’ portfolios and CVs, a detailed financing plan, and an official document containing the institution’s bank details. Applications should preferably be submitted by the deadlines specified on the Office for Fine Arts website.
