Deadline Date: January 26, 2026
The Interreg Meuse-Rhine (NL-BE-DE) Programme has launched its fifth call to support projects that bring real change to the border region between Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany by addressing societal challenges and improving the lives of residents.
The programme focuses on industrial transition, green (sustainable) transformation, social challenges such as labor market or education, promoting a healthier society, and supporting high-quality tourism in the region. The border region is currently experiencing the fourth industrial transition, offering opportunities to strengthen economic excellence despite the challenges posed by Industry 4.0. Projects that tackle this transition are encouraged to explore innovative solutions that enhance competitiveness and productivity across borders. The green transformation is a key priority as Europe moves toward sustainable development under the Paris Climate Agreement and the Green Deal. Projects may focus on boosting renewable energy, mitigating risks due to climate change, accelerating the adoption of circular economy concepts, and creating a greener labor market with targeted training.
Addressing public health is essential as research indicates residents in the region face lower health outcomes compared to other European areas. Projects are encouraged to stimulate the application of health innovations, improve accessibility to cross-border healthcare services, and strengthen the labor market and education in the healthcare sector. Tourism is strategically important for the economy and quality of life in the region. Projects that contribute to a diverse, high-quality tourism offer while addressing socio-economic challenges are welcomed. Improving the overall quality of life through cross-border cooperation and the removal of barriers is another priority. Projects should focus on making life better and easier for residents by enhancing the functionality and attractiveness of the region.
Funding for projects can cover up to 60% of costs with EU support, an increase from previous calls, while the remaining 40% must come from project partners through co-financing or own contributions. The total budget for this fifth call is €45,215,709, divided across industrial transition, green transformation, social challenges, and tourism priorities, with limited funding available in the health sector. Eligible projects must involve cross-border collaboration between Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany and aim to develop, test, and implement innovative solutions that address the region’s most pressing needs.
