The WCF Classic programme is supporting international film co-productions that promote cultural diversity and strengthen film production in eligible regions and countries.
The programme focuses on supporting films from regions and countries affected by political or economic instability, encouraging cooperation between German and eligible international production companies, increasing the international visibility of supported films, nurturing diversity in German cinemas, promoting cultural identity, and contributing to the development of local film industries.
The World Cinema Fund (WCF) was established as an initiative of the German Federal Cultural Foundation in cooperation with the Berlin International Film Festival. The WCF Classic programme serves as the initiative’s core funding programme, supporting film production through international collaboration.
The programme enables films from eligible regions and countries to be produced with a German production partner, helping improve their opportunities to reach international audiences.
Funding is awarded to projects involving cooperation between German production companies and production companies from WCF-supported regions or countries. The director of the project must also come from a WCF-supported region or country.
Eligible projects should reflect the cultural identity of their regions and contribute to the development of the local film industry.
The programme provides a maximum of €60,000 per project for production and up to €40,000 for post-production. The total production costs of supported projects should not exceed €1,400,000, or €2,000,000 for animation projects.
Eligible applicants include film production companies from WCF-supported regions working with directors from eligible regions, registered German film production companies collaborating with directors from WCF-supported countries, and registered production companies from other EU member states that have a branch or place of business in Germany and can demonstrate collaboration with a director from a WCF-supported country.
