The Offshore Wind Indigenous and Coastal Communities Grant Funding supports Indigenous and coastal communities in participating in offshore wind energy activities through access to technical and professional support.
The focus areas of this grant include engagement activities related to offshore wind energy, increasing community knowledge of offshore wind energy development, improving readiness for offshore wind consultations and engagements, technical and professional support, engagement with the offshore wind energy industry, regulators, public sector, and other stakeholders.
The objective of the Round 2 Call for Proposals is to support Indigenous and coastal community activities connected to offshore wind energy.
The grant aims to assist communities in accessing support to carry out engagement activities with offshore wind energy stakeholders as required. This support is intended to increase communities’ understanding of offshore wind energy development and strengthen their ability to participate in related consultations and engagements.
Eligible activities may include hiring a facilitator to support engagement with governments, regulators, or offshore wind developers, and conducting internal consultations with community members to better understand their perspectives on offshore wind development.
The Offshore Wind Program can provide grant funding of up to $10,000 per fiscal year per applicant.
Eligible applicants include Indigenous communities or governments, Tribal Councils, entities fulfilling similar functions, national or regional Indigenous councils, tribal organizations, and Indigenous majority-owned and controlled for-profit and not-for-profit organizations based in eligible areas.
Applications are also open to legally incorporated or registered Canadian entities, including for-profit and not-for-profit organizations such as regional and community development corporations, research associations, and industry associations, including fishing, marine, and boating associations in the specified offshore areas.
