The Mondriaan Fund is inviting applications for its Art Commission Grant to support the creation of new publicly accessible visual artworks and long-term collaborations between commissioners and professional visual artists in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
The grant focuses on commissioning new publicly accessible artworks, supporting one-off artist commissions, encouraging longer-term collaborations between artists and commissioners, funding the production and presentation of new visual art, and providing development support for planning or sketch phases of art commissions.
The Art Commission Grant is available to individuals, organizations, institutions, companies, public bodies, private organizations, and public-private partnerships that wish to commission visual artists to create new works that are accessible to the public. The commissioned artwork must be presented in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom and must not be intended for commercial profit. Individual artists, art education institutions, post-graduate institutions, and predominantly sales-oriented commercial art institutions are not eligible to apply.
The funding supports one-time commissions covering up to 50% of eligible production and presentation costs, longer collaborations with an artist covering up to 50% of costs for a period of up to four years, and development grants covering up to 70% of eligible costs, with a maximum contribution of €15,000.
Applicants must be established in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. A realistic artist’s fee must be included in the project budget, and applicants are expected to comply with the Fair Pay Code and other applicable cultural governance standards. The commissioned artist must have at least one year of professional practice and be actively engaged in the professional visual arts sector in the Netherlands and/or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
Applications can be submitted throughout the year through the Mondriaan Fund’s online application system. Applicants should allow approximately three months for the assessment process, and funding is not provided retrospectively.
