The WA Seniors Awards recognise individuals, organisations, businesses, and local governments making significant contributions to the lives of older Western Australians, with nominations open for those demonstrating leadership, compassion, and innovation in supporting seniors.
The WA Seniors Awards are a long-standing initiative coordinated by Advocare, the Seniors Peak Body of Western Australia, and funded by the Department of Communities Western Australia. These awards celebrate the remarkable impact of older adults and those who support them, highlighting the leadership, compassion, and innovation that strengthen communities across the state. The program aims to shine a spotlight on individuals and organisations who uplift, empower, and inspire, making Western Australia a better place for all generations.
The awards feature several categories, including WA Senior of the Year – Metropolitan, WA Senior of the Year – Regional, WA Age Friendly Business or Organisation of the Year, WA Age Friendly Local Government of the Year, and WA Seniors Advocate of the Year. Each category is designed to honour outstanding contributions, whether by individuals aged 65 years or over (or 55 years or over if Aboriginal), businesses, local governments, or advocates of any age dedicated to improving the lives of seniors.
Eligibility criteria vary by category, with some awards specifically for The WA Senior of the Year – Metropolitan and WA Senior of the Year – Regional categories are open to Western Australian residents aged 65 years and above, or 55 years and above for Aboriginal people. There is no age restriction for the remaining categories. The Age-friendly Business or Organisation category is open to registered businesses and organizations in Western Australia that provide services to older people. Winners from the previous three years are not eligible for nomination, although unsuccessful past nominees may apply again. Nominations from First Nations Australians, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and LGBTQI communities are strongly encouraged. All nominees must be willing to participate in media and publicity activities without charging a fee and must consent to the use of their nomination details and photographs for promotional purposes.
