The Open Innovation Challenge for openEHR-Based Clinical Innovation supports the development of scalable digital health solutions using the openEHR platform.
The Challenge focuses on interoperable openEHR-based digital health solutions, streamlining clinical workflows, improving data quality, enhancing patient outcomes, addressing real-world clinical needs, fostering healthcare innovation, validating feasibility, desirability and viability, developing minimum viable products (MVPs), and supporting integration into the healthcare ecosystem.
The 2026 edition of the Challenge is centered on the development of digital health solutions using the openEHR technology platform as a standard. Participants are encouraged to collaborate in creating solutions that respond to real-world clinical needs while promoting interoperability and innovation within healthcare systems.
Interested participants can join the open public phase of the Challenge by completing the online registration form. This phase enables participants to explore the topic in greater depth, connect with other innovators, develop ideas, and stay informed about Challenge-related activities.
The initiative is delivered through the Innovation Catalyst, powered by DayOne, which works to accelerate healthcare transformation through collaboration and open innovation across Switzerland. Through its Open Innovation Challenges, the program brings together experts, patients, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders to address important healthcare needs and co-create impactful solutions.
The Innovation Catalyst supports innovators throughout the innovation journey. The first stage focuses on moving from problem identification to idea generation through events, knowledge exchange, and collaboration that help build a shared understanding of healthcare challenges and foster the development of innovative solutions.
The next stage focuses on transforming ideas into minimum viable products. Selected teams receive tailored support to validate the feasibility, desirability, and viability of their concepts. Through partnerships and real-world insights, participants are supported in developing and testing solutions that are ready for integration into the Swiss healthcare ecosystem.
