The Canadian Electric Vehicle Technology Co-Innovation Mission provides opportunities for Canadian SMEs to engage in international partnerships focused on electric vehicle innovation.
The mission focuses on electric vehicle technologies, advanced power electronics, wide-band-gap semiconductors, advanced passive and dielectric materials, high-voltage characterization methods, multi-physics design approaches, next-generation power-dense EV inverters and converters, next-generation electric motors, rare-earth free or reduced rare-earth materials, advanced manufacturing processes, artificial intelligence and machine learning-driven design tools, advanced testing methodologies, AI-enabled hybrid testing, improved power density, efficiency, cost reduction, sustainability, international research and development collaboration, technology commercialization, and sustainable transportation innovation.
The objective of the mission is to connect Canadian and German organizations working in the electric vehicle sector to foster collaboration in the development and integration of innovative EV technologies into industrial products and processes. The initiative aims to generate future economic benefits while contributing to a more sustainable transportation ecosystem.
The mission is centered on advancing technologies that improve the performance, reliability, efficiency, and sustainability of electric vehicles. It supports collaboration in the development of advanced power electronics and next-generation electric motor technologies that address emerging industry needs.
Selected Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises may be invited to apply for financial support of up to CAD 5,000 to reimburse 75 percent of eligible travel expenses associated with participation in the mission, including economy airfare and per diem costs.
To participate, applicants must be incorporated, profit-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises in Canada with no more than 500 full-time equivalent employees. Eligible companies must have been operating for at least twelve months before the registration deadline and employ a minimum of five full-time equivalent employees in Canada, excluding contract workers.
Applicants must be focused on growth and profitability through the development and commercialization of innovative, technology-driven products, services, or processes. They must possess differentiated and protectable technologies with commercial potential in international markets.
Participating companies must also demonstrate the financial and operational capacity to undertake an international multi-year research and development collaboration while maintaining normal business operations and commercializing project outcomes. A commitment to international market expansion is also required.
Preference may be given to companies with at least ten full-time equivalent employees in Canada, experience commercializing products internationally, and annual sales revenue exceeding CAD 500,000.
