The Vinnova is seeking grant applications to strengthen the Swedish metal and mineral industry’s ability to supply essential metals and minerals, ensuring functionality in peacetime, high alert, wartime, and other security-sensitive situations.
The focus areas of the call include financing projects that strengthen the industry’s ability to contribute to total defense, supporting industrial research and experimental development that enhances the metal and mineral sector’s capacity and conditions to meet total defense requirements, and fostering collaboration between industry, academia, research institutes, and public authorities to achieve these objectives.
Eligible applicants are consortia consisting of at least one Swedish company and at least one Swedish research organization, such as a university, university college, or research institute. A Swedish company refers to a limited liability company (AB) registered in Sweden. Participants seeking funding must be Swedish legal entities, including foreign organisations with a branch or establishment in Sweden, with project costs attributable to the branch or establishment. Foreign actors without a Swedish branch may participate but are not eligible for funding.
Funding is available in two categories. In one category, projects can receive up to 1.5 million SEK for a duration of up to 18 months, while the other category has no set maximum grant amount. The call is part of the Swedish Metals & Minerals programme under the joint innovation initiative Impact Innovation by the Swedish Energy Agency, Forma, and Vinnova.
The call targets actor constellations consisting of companies in the metal and mineral industry with activities in Sweden, academia and research institutes, as well as authorities and public actors that can contribute to the objectives of the programme. All projects must demonstrate a clear link to strengthening the industry’s ability and conditions to support total defense.
