Deadline Date: April 09, 2026
Vinnova is inviting Swedish electricity-intensive industries to harness advanced digital technology to make energy use more flexible, efficient, and cost-effective.
The focus areas for this initiative include electrically flexible use of energy by one or more industrial actors, decision support that improves planning and predictability of energy costs, new technologies and working methods for secure and efficient handling and analysis of large amounts of data in electrification, and new business models that strengthen industry’s ability to independently secure its energy needs.
The transition to electrified industry is central to building a sustainable society, but it brings a significantly increased demand for electricity and power. To address this challenge, projects funded under this initiative aim to develop and apply advanced digital solutions that enable efficient, flexible, and cost-effective electricity use. These solutions will help secure access to electricity where and when it is needed, support collaboration between industry, service, and technology providers, and manage variations in energy prices and power requirements through scalable approaches.
Projects can involve consortia with at least two project parties, where at least one is an electricity-intensive industrial actor such as the paper and pulp industry, mining and steel industry, or other heavily electrified sectors at risk of power shortages. Collaborations may also include providers of advanced digital solutions, electricity grid companies, universities, research institutes, public organisations, and other relevant actors.
Eligible activities encompass investigating technical and design conditions, developing prototypes or demonstration versions of products or services including pilot tests, research and development of production methods, verifying innovations through studies and tests, and investigating market conditions to identify customers, partners, and competitors.
Funding for these research and innovation projects ranges from 1 to 10 million SEK, covering up to 50 percent of total eligible project costs. The projects are expected to run between 12 and 36 months, with a total preliminary budget of 30 million SEK for the call. Projects must be driven by industry needs and aim to create solutions that improve electricity efficiency, flexibility, and collaboration, ultimately contributing to a more resilient and sustainable industrial energy ecosystem.
