Applications are now open for Allan Gray Makers Startup Academy, an 8-month incubator programme designed to provide entrepreneurship training and comprehensive support to aspiring artisan entrepreneurs aiming to establish new businesses in the plumbing and electrical trades.
The Program participants will receive business training and support to start their businesses. The programme will be full-time and in-person, starting from mid April 2025.
The StartUp Academy is funded by Allan Gray Makers. This means that all programme costs are covered, including a basic transport allowance and all you’re expected to contribute is your commitment, your time, and your energy!
Funding Information
- Participants will receive a transport allowance of R3000 per month to help cover costs associated with attending the programme.
Eligibility Criteria
- You can apply if you are a South African citizen or permanent resident, aged 18-35, unemployed or self-employed (not studying), and in a relevant trade (Electrical/Plumbing).
- You must either be a qualified electrician or plumber with a trade test, have 3 years of work experience in the relevant trade and be ready to take the trade test, or hold an N2 certificate with 3 years of work experience in electrical or plumbing.
- Location: Gauteng (Johannesburg City, Ekurhuleni City, Mogale City and Ruimsig), Mpumalanga (Gert Sibanda Municipality) Kwa-Zulu Natal (Ethekwini District), Eastern Cape (Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan) and Limpopo (Capricorn District Municipality).
- Industry: Plumbing & Electrical. Intentions: Desire to start their own business.

- Proof of work experience
- National Senior Certificate (is advantageous)
