The National Science Foundation has announced applications to strengthen the capabilities of companies, public sector institutions, and individual entrepreneurs by supporting technology-driven innovation and helping novel ideas move toward commercialization.
The program supports technology development, product and process improvement, start-up creation based on novel technologies, commercialization of innovation, and strengthening regional and global competitiveness. Applicants may apply under the Technology Development Grant for innovative products, processes, or services at Technology Readiness Level 4 or above, or under the Start-Up Grant Scheme for tech start-ups or spin-offs based on novel products, processes, or services at Technology Readiness Level 8 or above.
Eligible applicants include state sector organizations, non-state sector organizations, and individual entrepreneurs. State and non-state applicants must submit relevant documents through the head of their institution or company. The team leader must be a citizen of Sri Lanka and residing in the country. Individual applicants are required to apply with a commercial partner or collaborator. Applicants must also provide supporting evidence such as patent certificates or published research outputs, along with a comprehensive budget breakdown.
The scheme aims to support innovative products, services, and business ventures that can improve competitiveness at both regional and global levels. Applications are accepted throughout the year through an expression of interest process, with designated submission windows during 2026. Grant proposals exceeding LKR 10 million are not encouraged. Selected non-state sector and individual applicants will be required to provide a refundable bank guarantee equivalent to the first installment disbursed.
